christina aguilera interview the voice finals nbc 'The Voice's' Christina Aguilera on beating Blake Shelton to the finals: 'I kind of felt bad'It was bound to happen, and on Tuesday (Dec. 10), it finally did: Blake Shelton‘s three-season winning streak on “The Voice” came to an end when the coach’s final artist, Cole Vosbury, was eliminated a week before the finale.

Though she’s still in the game with young vocalist Jacquie Lee, returning coach Christina Aguilera didn’t find much joy in being a part of Shelton’s demise. Speaking with reporters backstage after the results episode, she admits, “I really wasn’t invested in that whole derail,” adding, “Adam [Levine], I know, is going to pop champagne over that tonight, but you know, I kind of felt bad. You know, I don’t feel good when anybody goes home. It’s not about that.”

Instead, she’s focusing on coaching the young Lee all the way to victory, explaining that there’s no room for holding back next week. “At this point, yeah, you’ve got to go big or go home, basically. I mean, yes, at this point, you have to bring dynamics and go blow for blow. You know — bring it, now more than ever,” Aguilera says. “It’s about big vocals, big songs, but it’s also about staying true to what she does the best, which is — and what she did with ‘Angel’ — is remembering her heart and being genuine.”

Aguilera continues about Lee’s transformational performance on Monday, adding, “And the fact that she’s 16 and able to be so real and sincere, not only with her voice, though. Last night she proved she could do it with her heart and what she embodies from my coaching in mind. She’s very smart. This is a star in the making right now. You’re seeing it blossom before your eyes!”

“The Voice” two-night finale begins at 8 p.m. ET Monday (Dec. 16) and concludes at 9 p.m. Tuesday on NBC.
