david morrissey walking dead governor access hollywood live 'The Walking Dead': David Morrissey on The Governor's change of heartDavid Morrissey made his triumphant return to “The Walking Dead” during Sunday’s (Nov. 17) episode. Instead of the cold-blooded killer we knew during Season 3, The Governor is a changed man.

“He’s been on the road. He’s quite scraggly. He looks like a homeless guy,” Morrissey tells hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on “Access Hollywood Live.” “He needs a good shave and a good hairdresser, i think,” he jokes.

In all seriousness, though, Morrissey says his character’s motives are changed. “He’s sort of given up on life,” but he comes across a family with a young girl and decides to become their protector. “That’s where the awakening of his humanity has come back and he’s going to try again,” he says. “He’s with this family and he’s going to protect them. That’s his job. He’s had a turn around.”

The Governor might be nicer now, so who knows how people will react to Morrissey’s presence, but for now they still tend to recoil when he’s near by. “People come up to me and they say ‘I hope you die soon’ or ‘I love to hate you.’ They give me theories. We went to Comic-Con last year and I walked out on stage and 10,000 just people booed me. It was great.” Morrissey says.
