After weeks of double eliminations, tough sing-offs and some brutal critiques, “The X Factor” Season 3 has finally crowned a winner. Which finalist walked away with the title (and a $1 million Sony recording contract): folkie duo Alex and Sierra, rocker Jeff Gutt or Latin pop singer Carlito Olivero?
After plenty of fanfare — and lots of results show filler — the boyfriend/girlfriend group from Florida, Alex and Sierra, took home the win. The pair had never once been in the Bottom 2 and had multiple Top 10 singles on iTunes, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that they were able to take home the grand prize.
Coming in second place was Detroit singer Gutt, who had also never finished in the bottom but still seemed like a bit of an underdog compared to the buzzworthy Alex and Sierra. And despite a valiant last-minute surge — talk about peaking at the last minute! — Chicago pop artist Olivero came in a very respectable third.
The results show also featured performances from Lea Michele, singing her new single “Cannonball,” One Direction singing their new single, “Midnight Memories,” along with songs from Mary J. Blige, Pitbull, Leona Lewis and more.
