It’s official — on Monday morning, FOX announced that Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will replace Cheryl Cole behind the judges’ table for Simon Cowell’s American version of “The X Factor.”
She joins judges Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Cowell himself for the show — which is already well into the contestant audition process. Scherzinger had previously been attached to co-host the show with Welshman Steve Jones (not the Sex Pistol), but according to FOX, Jones will now handle hosting duties solo.
Cole, as we reported last week, is also out of a job in the U.K., too. No mention of the pop singer was made when the judges for the upcoming British version of the show were announced.
FOX didn’t give any reason for Cole’s dismissal, though speculation has centered on whether her strong British accent would be understandable to American audiences. There have also been rumblings that Cole and Abdul didn’t mix well behind the judges’ table.
