Cam Newton and Tim Tebow, two of the hottest young quarterbacks in the NFL, are featured on dueling covers of GQ’s September “NFL Kick-Off” issue. Inside, they talk about the high expectations and mania that surround them in pro football.
Newton talks about the importance of remaining modest.
“If I come out and say, ‘I will be the greatest to ever play this game,’ that’s a no-no. People want to see humble,” says Newton. And how he wasn’t quite ready for the big time early in his collegiate career. “I was immature and unfocused. I would never, ever make that mistake again.”
Meanwhile, Tebow talks about the Tebowmania that’s been following him since he started in the NFL and what that means playing in New York now.
“I’ll give my heart and soul whenever I step on that field and even when I’m on the sidelines. And at the end of the day, that’s really all you can ask of someone,” says Tebow.
The NFL regular season kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 5 when the Super Bowl champs New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys. The GQ “NFL Kick-Off” issues hits newsstands Tuesday, Aug. 21.
