It’s hard to imagine that a man who is best known for songs like “Shake Your Bon Bon” and “La Copa De La Vida” has made his way to Broadway. But Ricky Martin didn’t let his pop music past slow him down during his performance at the 66th Tony Awards on Sunday (June 10).
Martin got a featured spot during the award show singing “And the Money Kept Rolling In (and Out)” from “Evita.” In the musical, Martin plays Che Guevara, the iconic Marxist revolutionary who questions some of the means by which Eva Peron is securing the loyalty of her subjects.
While “Evita” didn’t win for best revival, Martin put on quite a number, proving that even at 40, he can deliver with the power and strength a role like Che demands.
So Zappers, what did you think of Martin’s performance at the Tony Awards?
