neil patrick harris tonys gi Tony Awards 2013: Neil Patrick Harris and most of Broadway open the show
“The Tony Awards” opened with Neil Patrick Harris as the singer from “Once” and poked fun at Shia LeBeouf “for passing on opening.”
And yes, of course he can play guitar. What can’t Neil Patrick Harris do?
Within moments he was in a tux, doing the big opening number and introducing Mike Tyson.
Yes, Mike Tyson on Broadway, but he did have a limited run show this season.
No worries about any dancers losing their job.
Singers and dancers from all of the hit musicals paraded on the huge stage of Radio City Musical Hall for the live production on CBS. As kids from “A Christmas Story, the Musical” and “Matilda, the Musical” danced on stage.
Harris sang: “Is there a Tony daycare where all of you go? Do your parents aside all your Broadway dough?”
And as a dig to lip synchers, he added: “We sing live eight times a week  — check it.”
Dancers took over the aisles, filling the cavernous theater, getting the audience up in the first number, and the Tonys were off to a great start. Within moments, Courtney B. Vance took the first award of the night for his betrayal of a put upon editor in “Lucky Guy.”
