Warning: Semi-spoilerish!

Zap2it spoke to Joe Manganiello, “True Blood’s” hot new “were-gular” (Get it? He plays a were and he was just promoted to a regular? Um, OK), after the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

“It was my favorite show and to be cast on my favorite show is one thing,” Manganiello tells us. “Then to ask to join the cast fulltime, it’s a dream come true. It’s unbelievable.”

The former “One Tree Hill” star has created a splash on the show as Alcide, Sookie Stackhouse’s current bodyguard (and temptation?). We talked to him about living up to all the fan interest in him before he had even appeared on the show and he tells us the time was ripe for his character.

“I also think it’s all about werewolves this year,” he says. “‘Twilight,’ the other projects this year. I think it’s a good time to be a werewolf and that wave just rode into the season. And since then, it seems like people are happy with what I’m doing and I’m going to be around a while.”

Just weeks after Manganiello was cast, Alan Ball decided to switch from CGI to using real wolves in the show. So, we wondered what it was like to work with the animals.

“I think it adds some extra element of danger to the show,” he says. “I think when people watch, they’re fascinated to see what the wolves are doing. And for us, it gives you an extra shot of adrenaline being on set, as well.”

Oh, and by the way, we got an overwhelming response from readers to request one thing from the well-built actor. Watch the video to see what that was and his response! Hint: He’s not “The Situation.”
