nic-pizzolatto-true-detective-season-2-rumors-gi.jpgForget anything you may have heard about casting for “True Detective” Season 2: As cool as it might be to think about Jessica Chastain or Brad Pitt joining the HBO show, creator Nic Pizzolatto says it’s all false.

“Literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever,” Pizzolatto told reporters at the Banff World Media Festival, per the Calgary Herald. “I mean that literally. I’ve seen entertainment reporters say ‘My sources say …’ There are no sources. There’s me and two other guys, and they don’t even know what I’m doing.”

Pizzolatto says he has a “secret list” of actors he’d like to cast, but that he’s only talked to one person about Season 2 so far. He’s focused more on meeting with directors before doing any casting.

As for what Season 2 will look like, Pizzolatto says there will be four main characters — some previous reports mentioned three leads — and at least one of them will be a woman. But reports that it will be focused on female leads aren’t true.

“Again, it’s a rumor with no basis in fact,” he says. “There is a strong [lead] female character. But I wouldn’t say it is female-led or anything like that.”

Pizzolatto says the anthology format of “True Detective” — which will tell one complete story per season — is proving daunting as he works on Season 2.

“Every season, I’m essentially creating a brand new TV show,” he says. “It can’t have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works it has to work right out of the box. That’s incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it’s doubly exhausting, and I’m writing every episode. I can’t imagine I would do this more than three years.

“I mean, I’d like to have a regular TV show. We’ll have some fixed sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don’t have to be there every second. It’d be great.”
