lauren alaina finale TV ratings: 'American Idol' dips, 'Dancing With the Stars' finale up from last springFast National ratings for Tuesday, May 24, 2011

“American Idol’s” final performance show of the season fell off a little from last year’s show in adults 18-49, although its total-viewer count improved slightly. It also helped “Glee” score its best numbers in several weeks.

“Dancing With the Stars,” meanwhile, ended its spring run with better ratings than the spring 2010 finale (although it didn’t match last fall’s closer), stealing viewers from “The Voice” in the process. The finale also became the first show ever to beat an “Idol” performance finale in viewers.

ABC led the night in viewers with 17.4 million, with an 11.0 rating/17 share in households. FOX (16 million, 9.1/14) was a strong second. CBS (9.3 million, 5.9/9) came in third, followed by NBC (8.2 million, 4.9/8). The CW was a non-factor with 673,000 viewers and a 0.5/1.

FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.4 rating, easily beating ABC’s 3.7. NBC took third with a 3.3. CBS, 1.7, came in fourth, while The CW earned a 0.2.
