“American Idol” held onto its place at the top of the ratings Wednesday, rising a little in viewers and coming in even among adults 18-40 compared to last week’s performance show. ABC’s comedy block was off slightly, with “Modern Family,” “The Middle” and “Suburgatory” all coming in below average. “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23,” however, improved some on last week, which had a rerun lead-in.

CBS’ dramas were also off a little from their most recent originals, but “Law & Order: SVU” improved slightly. And once again, a repeat of “The L.A. Complex” on The CW drew a bigger audience than its initial airing on Tuesday.

FOX drew 16.3 million viewers and a 10.0 rating/16 share in households for the night, beating CBS (10.1 million, 6.4/10) by a wide margin. ABC came in third with 7.1 million viewers and a 4.6/7. NBC (5.2 million, 3.5/6) finished fourth, while The CW finished with about 950,000 viewers and a 0.7/1.

In the 18-49 demographic, FOX’s 4.6 rating was two points better than CBS’ 2.6. ABC came in third with a 2.4, followed by NBC, 1.4, and The CW, 0.3.
