bcs game 320 TV ratings: BCS Tide lifts ABC to a huge ThursdayFast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 7, 2009

College football’s national championship game carried ABC to a huge ratings win Thursday night and became the most-watched prime-time broadcast of the 2009-10 season so far.

Alabama’s win over Texas gave ABC and average of 28.5 million viewers and a 15.8 rating/24 share for the night — up a good bit from last year’s title game on FOX — and left the rest of the field in the dust. CBS was the best of the rest with 10.3 million viewers and a 6.7/10. FOX (4.5 million, 2.9/4) came in third, followed by NBC (4.1 million, 2.7/4). The CW (1.7 million, 1.1/2) trailed.

ABC’s 9.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic beat the combined total of the other four networks. CBS took second with a 2.1, then came NBC, 1.5, FOX, 1.4, and The CW, 0.6.
