The kickoff to the NFL season didn’t score ratings quite as big as it did last year, but Wednesday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants was still a big winner for NBC.

Despite the big numbers for the NFL game, “Big Brother” and “So You Think You Can Dance” held up reasonably well for CBS and FOX.

NBC averaged 20.6 million viewers and a 12.7 rating/20 share in households in primetime, numbers that will likely go up some when the live telecast is taken into account. CBS (5.1 million, 3.3/5) was the best of the rest, beating FOX’s 4.1 million and 2.6/4. ABC came in fourth with 3.6 million viewers and a 2.5/4. The CW trailed with just under a million viewers and a 0.5/1.

NBC posted an 8.2 rating among adults 18-49, down from a 9.5 for last year’s NFL kickoff but still dominant for the night. CBS and FOX tied for second at 1.4. ABC drew a 1.0 in the demographic and The CW a 0.4.
