ncis extreme prejudice 1 TV ratings: 'NCIS' wins a rerun heavy New Year's night while a new 'Parenthood' fallsFast National ratings for Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013

The networks mostly took the first night of 2013 off, with all but two shows — “Parenthood” and “Emily Owens, M.D.” — airing repeats. The results, however, weren’t much different from any other Tuesday — CBS ended up on top in viewers, thanks to “NCIS.”

“Parenthood” was down a little from the season-high mark it set in its last original episode, but it still on the high side of its numbers this season. “Emily Owens” also did fairly well. (The likely top show of the night — ESPN’s coverage of the Orange Bowl — wasn’t on broadcast TV.)

CBS averaged 8.6 million viewers and a 5.5 rating/9 share in households in primetime. NBC (5.5 million, 3.2/5) came in second, well ahead of third-place ABC (3 million, 1.9/3). FOX managed only 1.6 million viewers and a 1.0/2, but that was enough to beat out The CW (1.2 million, 0.8/1).

NBC scored the best 18-49 rating of the night with a 1.6. CBS took second in the demographic with a 1.2. ABC was third at 0.9, followed by FOX, 0.7, and The CW, 0.3.
