The premiere of “The Following” gave FOX a big upgrade over “The Mob Doctor” Monday night, but its 10.4 million viewers and 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 were only good for second in its hour. The debut was in line with those of “Terra Nova” and “Alcatraz” last season.

CBS’ comedies were off a little from last week, but they still carried the Eye to a victory for the night. “The Bachelor” was up slightly for ABC to its best numbers of the season, while NBC’s “Deception” slid some more in its third week. “The Carrie Diaries” also dropped off some from its premiere on The CW last week.

CBS averaged 10.3 million viewers and a 6.4 rating/10 share in households for the night, beating out FOX’s 9.4 million and 5.6/8. ABC (7.9 million, 5.2/8) came in third. NBC was fourth with 5.25 million viewers and a 3.3/5. The CW (1 million, 0.7/1) trailed.

The adults 18-49 lead also went to CBS, whose 3.0 rating was a little better than FOX’s 2.7. ABC took third with a 2.3, followed by NBC, 2.0, and The CW, 0.4.
