That girl you went to high school with is going to be so excited when she finds out that “The Twilight Saga” is being resurrected — on Facebook, of all mediums, with a contest called “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga.'”
Six years after the release of the first “Twilight” movie, book author Stephenie Meyer is launching a contest to pick at least five female aspiring directors to make short films based on characters from her bestselling series. The “mini-movies” will be financed by Lionsgate, the film studio behind the franchise, and will debut exclusively on Facebook in 2015.
Meyer, “Twilight Saga” star Kristen Stewart and a group of female panelists that includes Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke and more will mentor and choose the winners of the contest, which will also include a component on the crowdsourcing platform Tongal.
The “Twilight” film stars “are not expected to appear in the short films,” the New York Times reports.
“This collaboration with Stephenie Meyer, Lionsgate and Women In Film is a great opportunity to engage Twilight’s massive global audience on Facebook through an innovative premium video program,” says Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns in a statement.
