Could there be a show out there with any more buzz than the upcoming NBC show, “Smash?” We doubt it. Critics have been over the moon about it. With the success of “Glee” and reality singing shows pretty much dominating prime time, it’s hardly surprising.
The show stars Debra Messing, Angelica Huston and Katharine McPhee and tells the story of the heartbreaks and triumphs of being on the Broadway stage, while trying to launch a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe.
Not content to rest on these heavy hitters, the show has just signed Uma Thurman for a five story arc. Thurman will play a rather difficult movie star who may want to play the role of Marilyn. The story line is kind of ripped from the headlines here. Broadway may be making more money because famous actors and actresses (many of whom can’t sing or dance) keep taking over the lead roles in musicals, but a lot of “legit” theater actors aren’t exactly happy about it.
“Smash” premieres this February on NBC.
