nastia liukin olympic trials U.S. women's gymnastics: Are Nastia Liukin's Olympics chances gone?At the 2012 U.S. women’s gymnastics trials Friday night (June 29), Nastia Liukin was one of the first competitors to perform on the uneven parallel bars, which is her signature event. And it did not go as planned.

Liukin was already facing an uphill battle after failing to complete a bar routine at the Visa National Championships three weeks ago, so she had a lot to prove at these trials to make it back to the Olympics. But on her bar routine dismount preparation, she went over on a handstand and had to bend her knees to hold it steady. She then under-rotated her dismount and landed basically flat on her behind.

Her final score was a 14.050 out of a possible 16.00. 2.45 in deduction is a hefty amount. And Liukin is only competing on the bars and the beam, hoping to go to London as a two-event specialist. But it’s not looking like that will happen for the reigning Olympic women’s all-around gold medalist.
