abby wambach soccer getty U.S. women's soccer team safe after hotel shootingA fatal shooting occurred in the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center inside their hotel’s Bar One restaurant Tuesday night (Jan. 17) around 8:45 p.m. PT. The hotel happened to be hosting the U.S. women’s soccer team as they compete in the qualifying rounds of CONCAFAC (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football), but the team has released a statement saying everyone with their delegation is safe.

The statement reads:

“The entire U.S. delegation is fine and no players or staff witnessed the
incident. U.S. Soccer has taken
the proper precautions to ensure the safety of the team for the duration
of the competition.”

U.S. women’s goalie Hope Solo tweets of the incident, “Saved by our instant yoga session. Was about to walk to starbucks when
all hell broke loose in the lobby of our hotel! Life is precious…”

Midfielder Carli Lloyd adds, “All is well here!”
