paul wesley torrey devitto gi 'Vampire Diaries' fans: Enter to meet Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVitto by supporting Global Roots“Vampire Diaries” fans have an incredible ability to mobilize for a good cause. It’s no surprise that given the opportunity to contribute to Global Roots, an organization that protects children all over the world by providing them with safe places and healthy resources, TVD fans have been generous with their time and money.

In a show of support for Global Roots, stars Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVitto plan to attend a fundraising dinner in Los Angeles this spring, and they’re inviting fans to sit at their table!

For a donation of just $10 to Paul & Torrey’s Corner at Global Roots, you’ll be entered to win a seat at the table. If you donate the most out of anyone, you’ll actually get to sit next to Paul and Torrey — who will also arrange for your air fare if you live outside the U.S.

The deadline is tonight (March 9) at 11:59 p.m. PST, so you’ll have to donate quickly if you want to be entered into the raffle. Click here to see all the information and find out how you can donate.

Your money goes toward Global Roots’ Children’s Garden Initiative, which sends teams to struggling areas to establish safe places for children to play, get food for their families, and be encouraged to go to school. “The kids get vegetables and protein from chicken eggs, and the impoverished families are more likely to send their children to school because they know that they’re going to get that meal, whereas they probably wouldn’t, otherwise,” Paul tells us. “The kids come back home to their families with food. It becomes a cycle, and it works.”

“Not only does it provide nourishment, but the gardens also give children a tranquil space amidst the mayhem,” Torrey adds. “Where the children’s gardens are, a lot of that land is run by drug lords, so it gives the children a safe place to be. A lot of the political control is in the wrong hands in some of these places, and children can be overlooked by those types of people. It’s nice to have a safe place that’s not controlled by something ugly.”

One of the things that’s most important to Paul and Torrey about Global Roots is that the organization does its best not to impose on the delicate social structures already in place in these foreign countries. “They go to very tricky areas, where there are very specific rules within the communities,” Paul says. “There are religious [implications] and all sorts of politics involved, and Global Roots makes sure to play their cards correctly and make sure we’re supported by the locals in the community. It can be tumultuous territory.”

They’ve already been touched by the fans’ contribution and are looking forward to meeting you face-to-face this spring. “I remember the first day we both put [Global Roots] out on Twitter, we were overwhelmed by the hits that the website got and the support. It’s really cool that people trust that we’re steering them in a positive direction. That’s the thing with a lot of non-profits that you have to be careful about. With Global Roots, you can see exactly where all your money is going.”
