vidal-sassoon-dies-deadVidal Sassoon, the fashion icon who redefined women’s hairstyles in the ’60s and remained a relevant force in the hair industry into old age with his line of salons and products, is dead at 84. Law enforcement officials say Sassoon was found dead at his Los Angeles Home on Tuesday (May 8).

Sassoon succumbed to an unspecified illness, reports the Los Angeles Times, and his family was by his side when he passed.

The man who started work as a shampoo boy at age 14 opened his first salon, in London, in 1954. By the 1970s he had crossed the Atlantic with his salons, line of hair care products and even a short-lived talk show.

Sassoon was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009, but kept the illness a secret for two years while he underwent treatment.

He was married four times. He met his current wife of seven years, Ronnie, 10 years ago. He’s also survived by three children.
