For Rion Holcombe, getting accepted into college was almost too good to be true. The 20-year-old with Down syndrome didn’t even bother trying to contain his excitement while reading his acceptance letter from Clemson University, and his parents caught it all on video.
The video was shared on “Today,” with a giddy Rion asking his parents, “I got accepted?” As his dad reads the letter out loud, Rion exclaims, “They said yes?” He was accepted to the ClemsonLIFE program at the university, which is designed to cater to students with intellectual disabilities. He will begin classes in fall 2014.
His parents are excited for Rion’s next step, but admit to “Today” that they are “not real excited about him leaving home.” Luckily he’ll still be close, as the campus is only an hour and a half away.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
