Monday (April 18) they revealed the new design for the VW Beetle. Tuesday it was a throwback – the updated version of the Volkswagen Microbus.

Alan Taylor from Motor Trend magazine says, “This is a concept, this would be a 2014 vehicle. We’ve got the
wink-wink, nod-nod. They’re not announcing anything, but they’re showing
it enough now that we’re saying yeah, they’re probably gonna build it.”

He also says they come in electric and clean diesel, plus the 2014 model could also come with “an iPad built into the dashboard so you can interface with your vehicle.”

Kelly Ripa
rightly points out that couldn’t this lead to someone Facebooking or what have you while they are driving and crashing their shiny new Microbus? Hmmm.

The old hippie version Microbus was first introduced as the “Volkswagen Type 2” in 1950 and saw many incarnations over the years. This updated Microbus debuted first at 2001 North American International Auto Show, but now it sounds like it may actually become a reality.
