With “The Walking Dead” Season 3 currently kicking butt on Sunday nights, AMC is giving the series’ first season a very special encore run in classic black and white style.
The black and white episodes harken back to the days of classic Universal horror movies like “Dracula,” “Frankenstein” and “The Wolf Man,” and begin tonight (Feb. 14) with a rebroadcast of the black and white version of the pilot and the first black and white airing of episode 2, “Guts” (which features the debut of Merle Dixon and the classic discovery that covering yourself in walker guts can be a very useful strategy).
Cable TV buffs who remember AMC’s origins as American Movie Classics may especially enjoy seeing the network come full circle and pay tribute to classic horror movies with their most popular show.
The black and white “Dead” episodes also serve as a lead-in for the network’s new reality block, Real Original Thursdays: Kevin Smith’s “Comic Book Men” at 9 p.m., new series “Freakshow” at 9:30 p.m. and “Immortalized” at 10 p.m.
