While the first trailer for Season 2 of Showtime’s creepy drama “Penny Dreadful” featured eerie new dialogue and some of the show’s trademark unsettling visuals, the second one features footage from the new season.
The teaser once again surrounds Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives, who asks, “The time came when I learned the curse was also something of a blessing. I learned to make use of the gifts I had been given. Will you do the same?”
It’s unclear to whom she’s speaking, but we see shots of most of Season 1’s key players, plus the bloody scorpion from the first trailer for the new season.
At “Penny Dreadful’s” very first San Diego Comic-Con panel in 2014, creator John Logan told fans that the main antagonist of Season 2 will be Helen McCrory’s Madame Kali — a decision he’s happy about, since, unlike the vampire in Season 1, he actually gets to write dialogue for this villain.
Season 2 will also include four new characters, including Patti Lupone as a character close to Vanessa, “Vikings” alum Sarah Greene as Evelyn Poole’s powerful daughter Hecate, Douglas Hodge as Scotland Yard investigator Bartholomew Rusk, and newcomer Jonny Beauchamp as a mysterious young man.
Per Showtime, “This season, Vanessa and Ethan form a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and Sembene (Danny Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), the Creature (Rory Kinnear) and Brona (Billie Piper) are all waging battles of their own.”
“Penny Dreadful” Season 2 is set to premiere in 2015.
