It was movie song week on “American Idol” Wednesday (March 12), and rock ‘n roller Caleb Johnson made an unusual choice for his number: “Skyfall” by Adele, from the James Bond movie of the same name.

It was an uncharacteristically slow and restrained performance by Johnson, but it really worked for him. The song is a perfect way to show off a different side of his vocal abilities while still staying true to who he is as a singer.

The judges loved it, with Harry Connick Jr. telling Caleb he’s going to be hard to beat. He was right — this was one of the best vocals on the night.
