During her 2015 SAG Awards acceptance speech for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for “Still Alice,” Julianne Moore gave a shoutout to her first role — well, technically roles — in 1985 on “As the World Turns.”
“When I was on ‘As the World Turns’ — yeah! — I was so excited when they wrote two parts for me. You know, the classic twin sister role, the good and the evil one,” Moore says. “And I couldn’t wait to do it. And then I realized it was super boring to act by myself. And what I really loved, what I really craved, and what was most exciting for me was being with another actor and feeling that intimacy, and excitement and thrill, and getting to know somebody in that way.”
On the daytime soap she played twin sisters Frannie and Sabrina Hughes, and a snippet of her years-long performance can be watched below:
Zach Galifianakis poked fun at Moore’s comments during his acceptance speech on behalf of “Birdman” winning Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, simply saying, “When I was on ‘As the World Turns’ …” and then walking away from the microphone.
