When one mayor makes a bet with another over the outcome of the Stanley Cup, live TV is the best way for the loser to pay up. With the LA Kings winning the Stanley Cup Friday (June 14), it was up to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to live up to his word.
Mayor de Blasio bet LA Mayor Eric Garcetti that the Rangers would win the Cup. Had they pulled it off, Garcetti would have appeared on TV to sing “New York, New York.” The Kings ended up champions though, leading to de Blasio appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to serenade the audience with “I Love LA.”
He was even nice enough to send over some hot dogs from Gray’s Papaya, a New York favorite. Garcetti wouldn’t stand for it though, instead snacking on a dog from famed LA stand Pink’s.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
