“Ray Donovan” doesn’t premiere on Showtime until June 30, but the network has premiered an edited version of the show’s pilot online 12 days early to try to hook viewers early. The one-hour premiere stars Liev Schreiber as Ray Donovan and Jon Voight as Mickey Donovan.

Earlier in June, “Ray Donovan” was named one of the six most exciting new series by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association. The series follows Ray as a “fixer” for the rich and famous whose life gets turned upside down when his father Mickey is released from prison.

Putting season premieres online early is an increasingly popular trend for networks looking to bolster appeal in their new series. Having “Ray Donovan” available online almost two weeks before its television premiere allows word-of-mouth buzz about the show to spread — and also allows for plenty of new people to subscribe to Showtime.
