What does it take to be part of the “Saturday Night Live” band? It turns out musical skill isn’t high on the list of priorities. At least, that’s the case in the eye of a new comedy short starring Aimee Mann, Andy Kindler and D.C. Pierson.
When Pierson’s character shows up to audition as a bass player for the show, all the casting directors want is someone who can believably laugh at the guest host’s monologue jokes. After all, they don’t have renowned comedians on the show every single week. Sometimes there are athletes or other notable pop culture names whose jokes don’t exactly hit.
The short, released online by Flavorwire, is written and directed by Daniel Ralston. Though it’s a totally fake version of the actual auditions, chances are you’ll notice the over-laughing most of the band does on the show next time you tune in.
