kanye west jay z 'Watch the Throne': Kanye West, Jay Z album remains leak free
Ever since the mere rumblings of a collaboration between Kanye West and Jay-Z, fans have been writhing in anticipation for the two rap superstars to release their album.

Well at exactly midnight on Monday (Aug. 8), the wait ended as the power duo’s album, “Watch the Throne,” was released digitally. The most surprising part of the album’s release? Unlike every Kanye or Jay-Z album before it, it didn’t leak.

How did they manage to pull it off?

“We took great care to deliver this to the people without it leaking at all,” Jay-Z tells MTV.

While rumor has it that the rappers kept the entire album on a thumb drive attached to their waists at all times, perhaps it’s their release strategy that helped in keeping the album under wraps. While the album was released digitally on Aug. 8, it will not get a physical release until 4 days later on Aug. 12. Even then it will only be available at Best Buy for the first 2 weeks of its release.

“We made this album, it took eight months. We should be able to release it the way we like without everyone being all up in arms,” explains Jay-Z of their release strategy. “The real reason behind it is was we didn’t want the music to leak. We wanted to present to the people in it’s entirety. When you send it out, once it leaves the plant and that’s the end of it.”

“Watch the Throne” breaks the streak of leaked albums not only for Kanye and Jay-Z, but hip-hop artists in general.
