WE tv is taking a detour from its usual reality fare and has given the green light to “South of Hell,” an original scripted drama.
Horror director Eli Roth has been picked to direct the premiere episode of the series, written by Matt Lambert. The show is a supernatural thriller set in Savannah, Ga., and focused on Maria Abascal, a demon hunter whose power stems from within.
WE tv has ordered eight episodes of “South of Hell” and plans for a 2015 premiere. The network plans to make this just one of many scripted series to add to next year’s lineup.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of ‘South of Hell,'” Roth says in a statement. “Exorcism and possession stories have always fascinated me, and Matt Lambert has created an incredibly rich, original world in which to tell many stories of good, evil, and everyone’s own personal inner demons.”
“Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious” producer Jason Blum is also among the EPs for “South of Hell.”
