Pssst. It’s not even turkey gobbling time but we hear Billy Crystal has already been approached to host the Oscars in March 2006. But, as a source close to Crystal says, “It would take a miracle” to get the comedian to host the Oscars next year because the funny man is really, really busy with his one-man touring show, “700 Sundays.”
Maybe the show’s producer (as yet unnamed) should check out HBO’s The Comedy Festival next weekend in Las Vegas; a great chance to catch a flock of funny guys: Dave Chappelle, Larry David, Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Bill Maher, Dennis Miller, Chris Rock (no, not again!) and Jon Stewart will be at various events like Thursday’s Earth to America fundraiser (with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio) and the Comedy Cares Celebrity Poker tournament, co-hosted by HBO honcho Chris Albrecht and a coupla “Sopranos” stars.
The Oscar host-seekers should skip Maher’s Friday late night “For Adults Only” show at the Flamingo Showroom. But it might be good to schmooze Jerry Seinfeld at Caesar’s Palace when he accepts his Comedy Festival Legacy Award Saturday. Please do not go to the The Founders event on Saturday, hosted by Larry King, with Shelley Berman, Norm Crosby, Shecky Green, and Jerry Lewis onstage.
There’ll already be enough old geezers in the Kodak Theatre that night.
