whitneyhouston oprahinterview 290 Whitney Houston tells Oprah about her darkest timesOprah Winfrey has been calling her interview with Whitney Houston one of her best ever, and Monday viewers finally got a chance to see what Winfrey was talking about.

Houston and Winfrey covered the gamut of the singer’s life and career in the interview, which is airing in two parts Monday and Tuesday on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The money quote, though, is probably Houston describing how her mother, singer Cissy Houston, came to her house and essentially dragged her daughter to rehab. (See an excerpt here.)

“She walks in with these sheriffs and says, ‘I have a court injunction here. You can do it my way or we’re just not going to do this at all.’ She said, ‘We’re both going to go on TV and you’re going to retire and say you’re going to give this up, because this is not worth it.’ …

“She said, ‘Let’s go. Let’s do this. I’m not losing to the world. I’m not losing you to Satan. … I want my daughter back.”

Houston also talks about what she describes as an emotionally abusive marriage to singer Bobby Brown, saying that at one point he even spit on her. “I was horrified he spit on me, in my face,” she tells Winfrey. She also says that “he slapped me once, but he got hit on the head three times by me.”
