Who designed Sienna Miller and Jennifer Lopez‘s gowns, two of the most unusual dresses at the Golden Globes? Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, who met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, formed their business in 2004 and have become fixtures on the awards season fashion scene in the past two years.
Turns out Georgina has known Sienna about that long too. "We’ve been friends forever. We met in school, when she wasn’t even an actress," Chapman told me yesterday from London, where she’s busy working on her Fall/Winter ’07 collection for London Fashion Week.
"I actually designed that dress specially for her," Chapman said. "But she looked through a whole rack and picked it out herself. I told her afterwards it was the one I’d made with her in mind. She’s a lovely girl and has such a marvelous sense of style. But the truth is she would look great in anything."
As for Lopez, Chapman says she’s very into Old Hollywood Glamour. "Her style icon is Elizabeth Taylor. She knew just how she wanted to look."
That’s Elizabeth, circa 60-70s in her hey day, for those of you who don’t remember how hot she was.
