It turns out that “Scandal”s’ Tony Goldwyn — whose maternal grandfather was playwright Sidney Howard — has a relative on his mother’s side of the family who wasn’t as progressive as Goldwyn might have originally thought he was.

In Zap2it‘s exclusive look at Sunday’s (April 5) episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?,” Goldwyn reads a letter written by his three times great-grandparent Nathaniel Coe, who was once a politician in New York’s state assembly.

As Goldwyn reads the letter, it’s revealed that, even though Nathaniel and his wife helped pioneer women’s rights, Nathaniel had some startling views on Native Americans as they were related to manifest destiny.

Find out more about Goldwyn and his heritage during “Who Do You think You Are?” airing at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday on TLC.
