mitt romney concession speech gi Why Mitt Romney lost the 2012 election

Late polls showed incumbent Barack Obama and GOP candidate Mitt Romney in a dead heat for the 2012 presidential election. Pundits projected a long election night, and possible a delayed result. Some said there may not be a definitive win announced for days.
Maybe that’s why a surprised Karl Rove fought the Fox News team like a caged animal when they called the election for Obama relatively early in the evening.
The following day, the TV and radio airwaves were filled with finger pointing, as many asked the question, “Why did Mitt Romney lose?” CNN sums up the basics.
Romney did not have a good stronghold in the young minority community; Superstorm Sandy shifted a good deal of campaign momentum toward Obama; Romney’s history on the issues important to voters — such as same-sex marriage and abortion — were successfully painted as wishy-washy, and the democrats just had a smarter strategy on the ground.
After the state of Ohio was called for Obama, Romney conceded the election. In a gracious speech, he said he wishes President Obama well. “This is a time of great challenges for America,” says Romney, “and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.”
