“We both grew up watching the show and had a fondness for it,” Phil Lord
, one of “21 Jump Street’s”
two directors tells Zap2it
at the movie’s premiere on Tuesday (March 13) in Hollywood.
“There’s the whole idea of going back to high school. A lot of details from the original are in there. Of course, we kept the Jump Street the same and the captain. We have a lot of cameos.”
His directing partner, Christopher Miller
“The original show had so much sympathy for the kids they were investigating, and though it’s a funny movie, we thought about it the same way. I love all those characters,” Miller tells Zap2it. “I wanted them to be all right.”
Even those prone to the first version quickly saw the light, such as Holly Robinson Peete
, also at the premiere, who was behind the original series.
“I like Jonah and Channing, I really do,” says Peete.”I think they’re going to do it justice. When I went in to film my cameo, I was amazed at their comedic timing. I felt they could maintain the integrity of the program. But you know, in the end, it’s a comedy; it’s about making people laugh.”
