tvd twilight stefan Will 'Twilight' fans fall for 'The Vampire Diaries' in Season 3?When “The Vampire Diaries” debuted in 2009, it was the height of the “Twilight” craze. There’s no doubt that without “Twilight” inciting a veritable vampire frenzy, L.J. Smith’s original “Vampire Diaries” novels may never have been dusted off for The CW series.

To an untrained eye (and, let’s face it, they don’t offer training in this kind of thing) the premiere episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was nearly indistinguishable from “Twilight” — the love triangle, the angsty gazes across classrooms, the “good” vampire with the gravity-defying coif inexplicably drawn to the sullen innocent.

After that episode, however, comparisons flickered out. Even last season’s introduction of the werewolf as a threat to the vampire felt miles away from the Taylor Lautner version of the creature. Eventually, the “TVD” cast was no longer asked questions about “Twilight’ during interviews, the series developed a distinguishable visual style, and complex storylines began to draw the kind of critical praise that “Twilight” has never been afforded.

But, it’s that time of year again! Yes, Robert Pattinson is back in his glitter on screens this month in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1,” and, as it’s the first part of the final film, it seems that Twi-hard fever is as hot as it ever was. So it’s no surprise that The CW is taking a shot at drawing the attention of the millions of “Twilight” fans who may have cast “The Vampire Diaries” aside as a cheap knock-off two years ago.

For the first two weeks that “Breaking Dawn” is in theaters, fans will see a thirty-second trailer for The CW’s Thursday night cocktail of supernatural teenagers getting up to no good on “The Vampire Diaries” and, of course, its companion series “The Secret Circle.”

We’re of the mind that almost anyone who gives the shows a genuine chance will be hooked. Do you think “Twilight” fans will “come for a bite” of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Secret Circle” after seeing this promo in theaters?
