ABC is transporting its summer series “Wipeout” into the dead of winter.
The network has ordered eight episodes of obstacle-course competition/people-falling-down show to air starting in January. The course will be given a “Winter Wonderland” makeover full of snow and ice, along with new stunts with names like Polar Bear Run, Wipeout Ski Lift and Spanker Sleds.
There’s no word on where the show will fit into the schedule, although it would be a logical fill-in for the “Dancing With the Stars” results show on Tuesdays. It joins a fairly extensive lineup of midseason series on ABC, including the recently moved “Body of Proof,” returning show “V,” medical dramedy “Off the Map” and comedies “Happy Endings” and “Mr. Sunshine,” as well as the next edition of “The Bachelor.”
The summer run of “Wipeout” averaged 8.8 million viewers and a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49. Anything close to that against the heavier competition of the regular season would be a good outcome for ABC.
