Diagon Alley is coming to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Universal Orlando has sent out the first rendering of what the expansion to their theme park will look like, and also confirmed that the new portion of the “Harry Potter”-themed area will open in 2014.
Unlike the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is located in the Islands of Adventure side of Universal Orlando, the Diagon Alley portion will be located in a separate area in the Universal Studios park. Both portions of the Wizarding World will be connected by the Hogwarts Express train which will transport visitors from London and Diagon Alley to Hogwarts and Hogsmeade village and back again.
Universal Orlando says that the new Diagon Alley area will feature new shops, a second “Harry Potter”-themed restaurant and an “innovative, marquee attraction based on Gringotts bank.” Hopefully that attraction will be inspired by the breathtaking adventure Harry, Ron and Hermione had in Gringotts in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.”
“I’m so pleased that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has proved so popular to date, and I’m sure that the attention to detail in creating the new Diagon Alley area will make this an even better experience,” J.K. Rowling says in a statement.
The first Wizarding World will now be officially known as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, while the expansion is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. A Wizarding World theme park is slated to open in Universal Hollywood in 2015.
