Chris Brown has a new Twitter antagonist in WWE star CM Punk, who’s challenging the singer to step into the ring.
The feud began Monday (Feb. 20) when Punk, the current WWE champion, tweeted, “I would like @chrisbrown [to] fight somebody that can defend themselves. Me curb stomping that turd would be a #wrestlemania moment.”
Brown took the bait, first tweeting (and then deleting) “@CMpunk needs more followers. He’s such a leader! Not to mention the roids hes on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure a women” [sic]. He followed that up with, “@CMpunk contact my assistant and I’ll have em send u an autographed pic for my biggest FAN!!!” Several other tweets followed, despite Brown professing not to know or care who CM Punk is.
The steroid comment prompted CM Punk to post the video at the bottom of the post, in which he talks about his straight-edge lifestyle (it’s both an in-ring gimmick and a real-life thing for him) and then challenges Brown to a match. “I don’t hit women, period,” he says. “… I firmly believe that in this life there are consequences and repercussions for poeple’s actions. I don’t think Chris has paid for what he’s done.”
(We could easily be wrong, but this doesn’t feel like the start of a runup to Chris Brown appearing on a WWE pay-per-view. CM Punk is known for going off-script, and the lack of histrionics at least makes this feel like a sincere statement).
Punk proposes a match in which all proceeds go to a women’s shelter, then admits he doubts it will ever happen, “because Chris Brown isn’t a man.”
“That’s fine,” he concludes. “I just know that someday, somewhere, somehow, somebody will put Chris Brown exactly where he belongs, and it honestly doesn’t have to be me. I would just really like it to be.”
