R&B star Aaliyah died tragically at 22 years old and now, 13 years later, she’s the subject of a movie based on her short, successful life. Disney star Zendaya will play the singer/actress in a new Lifetime original movie, tentatively titled “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.”
Teen star Zendaya will sing four of Aaliyah’s hit singles for the film, which is based on the bestselling book by former Time magazine music editor Christopher Farley called “Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.”
The film will follow Aaliyah’s start on “Star Search” at 10, her fame as a teen R&B star and the beginning of her burgeoning acting career before a small plane crash in 2001 took her life. It will premiere in the fall.
An actress and singer herself, 17-year-old Zendaya starred on the Disney Channel series “Shake it Up,” Season 16 of “Dancing With the Stars” and will star in the new Disney Channel original movie “Zapped” and series “K.C. Undercover.”
