Hot off its four Golden Globes nominations, the final trailer for Kathryn Bigelow‘s “Zero Dark Thirty” has been released. The video offers the best look yet at a movie that’s sure to be one of the main Oscar contenders this year.

“Zero Dark Thirty” comes out in limited release next week and in a wide release on Jan. 11. Though the hunt for Osama bin Laden was well documented in the media, this “reported film” as screenwriter Mark Boal likes to call it tells the inside story of a CIA operative played by Jessica Chastain who helped discover one of the major clues that led to the discovery and then murder of bin Laden. Like “The Hurt Locker” before it, this film offers an unflinching take on what came after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

It’s interesting that the trailer chooses to start with a look at one of the controversial interrogation scenes that have become a topic of major discussion before the film has even hit theaters. Clearly director Bigelow isn’t scared of facing the subject dead-on, as she stated during a recent press conference.

“They were difficult to shoot, those sequences,” she said of the torture scenes early in the film. “I wish it was not part of our history, but it was.”
