“New Girl” star/cute bomb Zooey Deschanel is set to play the title role in a Broadway musical adaptation of “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Loretta Lynn announced the news on Thursday (May 10) during a performance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, where she was joined on stage by Deschanel for a rendition of the singer’s signature song, reports The Wrap.
“It’s a long way from Butcher Holler to Broadway in New York City,” says Lynn in a statement. “I never imagined I’d see ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ on a movie screen, and now I can’t believe it’s going to be on a stage for people to see.”
Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of Lynn in the 1980 movie of the same name that chronicles Lynn’s rise from poor Kentucky girl to country music superstar.
On Twitter, Deschanel wrote “Loretta Lynn asked me to do “coal miner’s daughter” on broadway! I said YES!” She also included the Instagram photo above of her with Lynn.
“I’m going to be right there in the front row,” says Lynn. “And I know Zooey is going to be great — she sings and writes her own songs just like I do, and we even have the same color eyes!”
What do you think? Will Zooey pull off Loretta? And does this all end with a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical adaptation of the movie?
