Sunday (March 20) is National Proposal Day, so we hope some of you have an engagement ring burning a hole in your pocket on behalf of the big day.

If you’re looking for some inspiration on a few romantic ways to pop the question, have we got the list for you. TV characters might have the advantage of lighting teams, costuming and wardrobe to make their proposals extra magical, but that doesn’t mean you can still take a page out of their book for you own proposal.

Derek & Meredith, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

After sharing some of their best couple moments in the elevator at Seattle Grace Hospital, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) somehow managed to make a cramped elevator full of brain scans into a beautiful gesture of love.

Max & Lorelai, ‘Gilmore Girls’

Max Medina (Scott Cohen) might have broken the cardinal rule of proposing over the phone, but he made sure to surprise Lorelai (Lauren Graham) with a thousand yellow daisies per her request. That counts as a win.

Ben & Leslie, ‘Parks & Recreation’

The proposal itself may not have been anything special, but Leslie’s (Amy Poehler) line before answering makes it incredible. “I need another second please. I need to remember every little thing about how perfect my life is right now.”

Oliver & Felicity, ‘Arrow’

Even if this proposal was immediately followed by a tragic limo shooting, Oliver (Stephen Amell) still managed to pull off one of the sweetest speeches of all time as he slid that ring onto Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) finger.

Sydney & Vaughn, ‘Alias’

Nothing says romance like proposing just before you’re about to jump out of a plane. In the lives of CIA super-spies though, it fit right in as the perfect way to pop the question.

Barney & Robin, ‘How I Met Your Mother’

Fans are still raging about the ending of “How I Met Your Mother” and that might have something to do with the ridiculously elaborate and ultimately adorable way Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) asked Robin (Cobie Smulders) to marry him.

Matthew & Mary, ‘Downton Abbey’

After seasons of will-they-won’t-they madness, Matthew (Dan Stevens) finally got down on one knee and asked Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) to marry him in front of a snow-covered Downton Abbey. Swoon.

Jim & Pam, ‘The Office’

Proposing at a gas station might not seem like the ideal situation for most couples, but for Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenn Fischer), it was a beautiful moment.

Mike & Rachel, ‘Suits’

“I don’t want to spend 40 years wondering why I didn’t do this one day sooner,” is possibly one of the most swoon-worthy lines ever. Mike (Patrick J. Adams) proposing with his grandmother’s ring was the cherry on top of a lovely proposal.

Monica & Chandler, ‘Friends’

The winner of this category is without a doubt Chandler’s (Matthew Perry) proposal to Monica (Courtney Cox) on “Friends.” The fact that Monica was the one to technically proposed just makes the whole thing even more perfect.

She graduated from Pepperdine University with a major in Media Studies and a borderline unhealthy obsession with TV in 2012. Unless, of course, you’re busy. In which case, always ignore coincidence.”
