The 58th annual Grammy Awards honored MusiCares person of the year Lionel Richie with a medley of his greatest hits, performed by an eclectic lineup of the hottest musicians of the music world — but it totally worked.
John Legend kicked things off with “Easy,” followed by Demi Lovato showing off some soaring vocals on “Hello.” She then threw it over to country artist Luke Bryan on “Penny Lover,” and Meghan Trainor on “You Are.”
Rounding out the medley was Tyrese on “Brick House,” in a disco-rrific party before Richie himself took the stage for “All Night Long.”
The audience was having a ball and “All Night Long” got them on their feet to groove along with the music.
Richie was honored as the 2016 MusiCares Person of the Year in recognition both his creative accomplishments and his charitable works and causes, which over the years have included AIDS, human rights, poverty, human trafficking, women’s issues and the United Negro College Fund.
The MusicCares Person of the Year Gala was held Feb. 13, with proceeds going to ensure that music people have a place to turn to in times of financial, medical and personal need.
