Since Episode 1, we’ve been pretty grossed out by the sleeper-cell storyline playing out on “24: Legacy.” And finally, in Monday’s (March 6) episode, that teacher/student terrorist threat was put to bed.
Honestly, it felt like well past time for Mr. Harris (Kevin Christy) to meet his maker — not just for that inappropriate and illegal relationship with high school student Amira (Kathryn Prescott), but for his violent actions against Drew (Zayne Emory), her knowing ex.
Skeevy character traits aside, it seems the Science teacher finally grew a conscience, using Khasan’s (Themo Melikidze) gun against him to escape to safety with Amira. While we’re still trying to figure out where that safe place would’ve been, it ended up not mattering much: Mr. Harris killed Amira’s brother, prompting the young sleeper agent to kill her teacher and terrorist partner-in-crime.
Halfway through the season is the perfect time to cut the fat, and this loose end needed to go: Amira never became a character we could root for, even if she did end up sparing the life of her dear old dad.
You’ve got to hand it to “24: Legacy” — this may have been one weak storyline, but the show lived up to its explosive reputation putting the whole thing to bed. Amira may not have been many things, but at least she proved herself a completist: Following through on Jadalla’s (Raphael Acloque) dream of American destruction, all the way to the bitter end.
Driving a box truck full of explosives, it’s safe to say the poor bridge security guard never had a chance to catch her: CTU attempted to guide him through her apprehension as best they could, but unfortunately for him — and everyone on that bridge — the man just couldn’t move quickly enough.
Take into consideration the Jason Voorhees rule of thumb: No matter how many rounds of ammunition you’ve fired off, never assume the evildoer’s dead. Ever. It’s possible the bridge guard was never a “Friday the 13th” fan — in the end, it doesn’t really matter. One flick of Amira’s bloody wrist sent the truck-full of explosives up in flames — taking out the whole thing.
Five episodes in, “24: Legacy” is really tapping into the chewy goodness of what makes a “24” series truly work. And with Eric’s wife (Anna Diop) and brother (Ashley Thomas) kidnapped, and Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) on the way, things are about to get very intense…
“24: Legacy” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
