One question on fans’ minds when FOX announced its “24: Legacy” pilot going into production is will it be about Kate Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski), the CTU agent introduced in the 2014 limited series “24: Live Another Day.”
Unfortunately, the “Legacy” continuation will be centered around Eric Carter, an African-American man in his 20s, and a female co-lead who is a former head of CTU. But that will not be Strahovski’s Morgan.
“[Strahovski] did a fantastic job,” FOX CEO Dana Walden tells Zap2it. “That’s just not the story that the executive producers came in to pitch us.”
Walden adds that FOX did not go to the “24” creators and ask for a reboot, the producers came to FOX with “a fantastic idea” that stemmed from the fact that “24: Live Another” demonstrated that they could do “24” without having to do a full 24 episodes.
“I think so much of what was exciting to [the creators] is seeing the 12-episode event miniseries, seeing that you can jump a little bit and do it over 12 hours,” says Walden. “That’s something we discussed for years and years … I don’t think any of us believe a 24-episode arc, in this day and age, with this type of competition, would be a smart way to go.
“So seeing the 12 episodes they came in to say, OK we see that it lived successfully in that type of arc, now we want to start from scratch. We really didn’t want to revisit characters we’d already explored. But she did a fantastic job.”
