Adele stops by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday (Feb. 18) to perform her song “All I Ask,” which is the same song she had some sound issues with during the 2016 Grammy Awards on Sunday. Regarding the sound problems, Adele wants fans to know a couple things.
“The microphones fell onto the piano strings, which is what the guitar noise was. Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms,” says Adele, adding that she knew right away what the problem was and wanted to fix it.
“I heard it straight away, I knew what it was because in rehearsal on Saturday, they said we’re going to double-mic the piano just in case one doesn’t work. And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze.”
After cracking a joke about how she’s “always a bit pitchy anyway,” Adele does admit that it was pretty embarrassing.
“I was so embarrassed … I cried pretty much all day [the next day],” she says, adding, “In fairness, I would’ve cried if it went really well as well, if it had been a stand-out performance I would have cried as well. I always cry. But I kept spontaneously bursting into tears.
Of course, now she figures she’s hit bottom on the embarrassing scale.
“I don’t feel like it could go much worse than the Grammys now, though. Anything else, dust it off,” says Adele.
Finally, while Ellen has Adele there, she figures why not get the superstar singer to record her voicemail message? Which Adele then does and it’s incredible.
